Stuttering (Stammering)

Short Description

The "cure" for tics and stuttering is the same -- practice doing it right after you stutter or have a tic.

Stuttering might seem to be very different from tics, though several researchers have associated the two. In any case, practicing the stuttering seems to eliminate it.

Dr. Levine's treatment for stuttering is to practice the stutter for around 30 seconds after stuttering. Again, you do not need to do this in public.

The 30 second duration might not be the optimal, but in the absence of any other reason, you should practice for about that time.

Specific information about stuttering hopefully will be available soon. For now, it may help to read the page on tics.
